Cllr Brian Wright

Cllr Brian Wright

Chair of the Council

Clay Cross Parish Council

"After leaving Tupton Hall School at 16, I went to work down Ireland Colliery until 1987 then Markham number 2 pit until its closure, and for over 25 years I have worked at the Worcester Bosch factory in Danesmoor. My wife, Susan, and I have raised our 2 children here and now have 5 grandchildren."

Brian has been a Parish Councillor for two decades and was Chair of North East Derbyshire District Council in 2011.

He is a keen fundraiser and during his time as Chair, he undertook activities including skydiving, abseiling and a microlite flight, raising over £10,000 for Rainbows Children's Hospice.

He remains a keen and proactive member of the local community and set up a walking group to encourage others working at the Worchester Bosch factory to explore and appreciate the local area, benefitting both their mental and physical health in the process. In 2023 the group did the Three Peaks Challenge and, along with Worcester Bosch, raised thousands for local food banks. Six members of the group, including Brian, recently did the 'Cateran Yomp' through Perthshire, Scotland, walking many miles over varied terrain which raised funds for the Army Benevolent Fund.

Brian, along with other local volunteers, was instrumental in reopening the snooker club on Broadleys in 2023, which had been closed since 2017 and had fallen into disrepair. The club now has over 300 members and will soon open another room at the venue to accommodate growing local demand.
