Following on from the success of Litter Picks in Clay Cross and Danesmoor, we are pleased to announce that litter picking kits are available from Clay Cross Social Centre from Monday 19th August.

This has been arranged by Hayley Bramley, Walking Into Communities Development Officer, NEDDC.

Access Conflicts over Clay Cross Hall

Access Conflicts over Clay Cross Hall

Recently Clay Cross Hall and the surrounding land was sold by Derbyshire County Council.

This land, which had previously been used by locals in order to access the park, is now a private residence and the County Council have confirmed that there are no public rights of way across the land.

Local Snooker Club Restoration and Success

The snooker club on Broadley's, Clay Cross, closed its doors in 2017. It fell into a state of disrepair due to being repeatedly broken in to and vandalised, causing a great deal of damage to the site. It had become a hotspot for antisocial behaviour and drug-taking and was facing the possibility of a compulsory purchase order.

Out and About Summer Clubs

Out and About Summer Clubs

There are six free 'Out and About' family summer clubs being run in Clay Cross and Danesmoor over the Summer break by 'First Art'.

They are held every Thursday and include a local walk and themed activities including art, stories, woodland and a bug safari.

Defra has confirmed that the threshold for mandatory registration on the GB Poultry Register will be reduced from 50 birds to 1, and all poultry keepers will need to review their entry every year. The deadline is 1 Oct 2024.

New measures to better protect the poultry sector from future avian influenza outbreaks were set out by the Government in March 2024.

Clay Cross Parish Council are saddened to announce the passing of our Chair and longstanding Parish Councillor Gerry Morley, aged 77.

Born in Holmewood and a lifelong local resident, Gerry was a miner and 'overman deputy' from leaving school until 1992, moving onto running Clay Cross & Danesmoor Miners Welfare. He also ran his own successful local business for a number of years.
