Kenning Park Community Group

'Kenning Park Community Group' is made up of two Parish Council members, a representative of Kenning Park Forest School and a team of local volunteers.

The Group was set up to work towards the regeneration and development of Kenning Park and Meadow Fishing Pond.

The objectives of the Group are:

  • To promote the Park as an attractive, functional, and developing amenity within Clay Cross.
  • To support community activities within the Park.
  • To raise the profile of Clay Cross.
  • To undertake any activities that fit within the aims that will benefit the Clay Cross area.
  • To encourage sustainable wildlife development, habitat enrichment, conservation, and biodiversity of the area.

New grounds maintenance at Kenning Park!

'Shed Grounds Maintenance', award-winning grounds and exterior maintenance contractors based in Shirland, have now been appointed to take over the grass cutting and maintenance of Kenning Park for 2024-25, we look forward to seeing the results of their work over the coming months!

Kenning Park Forest School

Kenning Park are very fortunate to have a Forest School, run by local resident Michaela Garner.

Michaela has been running the Forest School sessions on the Park since 2020, when the Parish Council agreed the use of a corner of the Park for outdoor activities that benefit our local community and wildlife.

The weekly sessions are run on a casual drop-in basis (see posters below or contact the Forest School for more information).

A range of different activities are done from week to week and the Forest School also provide play equipment such as hammocks, swings and slacklines. Sessions are geared towards free play and experienced based learning.

Past sessions have included;

  • Den/shelter building
  • Clay modelling
  • Bug hunts and microscopes
  • Fire lighting
  • Campfire cooking
  • Foraging weeks
  • Tree identification
  • Site and local history
  • Knot-tying

***The group is NOT a drop-off session, parents and carers are responsible for their children at all times.***
